Hawthorn Community House is a not-for-profit community based organisation. We are a friendly, vibrant, inclusive community house that provides interesting programs for all residents. We offer affordable and fun classes throughout the year. We make our classes accessible to all members of our community and we try and operate within the means of most people and keep our classes and workshops affordable.
We operate across two sites, 32 Henry Street and upstairs at 584 Glenferrie Rd.
We are a registered NDIS provider and run community based group activities.
We also run an occasional child care center at 39 William Street. Please call us for details and enrollment forms.
Want to teach at 32 Henry Street?
We believe that anyone can share their knowledge and things they are passionate about. Do you have a specialist subject? A niche? A skill that you want to share? We are always looking for teachers to run classes and you could be one of them!
Our teachers all come from the local community, often local small-business owners or amateur enthusiasts. We also collaborate with local businesses and organisations for running our workshops, putting on special events and participating in festivals.
Our classes typically take place during the week and our workshops on a Tuesday evening or Sunday afternoon. Most classes run for the length of the school terms, i.e. approx. 10 weeks per term and we have four terms. We aim to cover a variety of topics and interests, from Children’s and Teen activities, the Arts, Health and Well-being, Language and Literacy and Technology. Our workshops focus on topical subjects such as Kombucha, Preserving, Bee Keeping, Christmas Wreaths, Cooking Demonstrations and Sustainability.
If you have an idea for a class and you think there is enough general interest to start a class please put together a plan and think about what it is you offer and what students will get out of the class, then contact us for an initial meeting.
